My Favourite Reads of 2024

In 2024 I, perhaps unsurprisingly, continued to neglect my blog. I was ridiculously busy at work, but it's not an excuse. So here I am posting my favourite reads of 2024. The lists are actually a lot shorter than I thought they would be, and I admit that I should have DNF'd a lot more books last year. That being said, I read a few gems. My only preemptive bit is that these numbered lists are in no particular order. Here we go!

Fiction

  1. The Sleeping Car Porter, Suzette Mayr
  2. Clear, Carys Davies
  3. Falling Animals, Sheila Armstrong
  4. Landscapes, Christine Lai
  5. Rizzio, Denise Mina
  6. Feast, Emily O'Grady
  7. Enter Ghost, Isabella Hammad
By far one of the best books I read (and also reread) in 2024!

Nonfiction
  1. Empire of Pain, Patrick Radden Keefe
  2. Semicolon, Cecelia Watson
  3. Seven Necessary Sins of Women and Girls, Mona Eltahawy
  4. The Science of Murder, Carla Valentine
  5. Code Dependent, Madhumita Murgia
  6. Ten Myths About Israel, Ilan Pappé
  7. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, Bettany Hughes
My most anticipated nonfiction read; it didn't disappoint!

Translated Fiction
  1. The Book Censor's Library, Bothayna Al-Essa
  2. That Time of Year, Marie NDiaye
  3. People Like Them, Samira Sedira
  4. Blizzard, Marie Vingtras
  5. Strega, Johanne Lykke Holm
  6. Not a River, Selva Almada
I loved this so much and NEED to reread it soon!

Classic
  1. The Moonstone, Wilkie Collins
  2. Agnes Grey, Anne Brontë
  3. Mrs Caliban, Rachel Ingalls
  4. Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, J.R.R. Tolkien
  5. The Postman Always Rings Twice, James M. Cain
I didn't think I was going to enjoy this as much as I did!

Short Story Collection
  1. A Sunny Place for Shady People,
  2. Neighbors and Other Stories, Diane Oliver
  3. Night Side of the River: Ghost Stories, Jeanette Winterson
  4. Your Utopia, Bora Chung
  5. East, West, Salman Rushdie
  6. Today a Woman Went Mad in the Supermarket, Hilma Wolitzer
  7. Seven Empty Houses, Samanta Schweblin
  8. Close Range: Wyoming Stories, Annie Proulx
This was such a great collection! I'd buy it in order to reread it!

Play
  1. Clybourne Park, Bruce Norris
  2. The Penelopiad: The Play, Margaret Atwood
  3. Picnic at Hanging Rock, Tom Wright

I read a lot of "meh" books in 2024, which is why my reading resolution for 2025 is to DNF more. I'm happy to report that I have already DNF'd two books since the new year began! My reading experiences have already been so much better.

What books did you love in 2024? Would you recommend any of them and if so, which ones? What do you hope to read in 2025 and if you have any reading resolutions for 2025, please share them!

Happy reading!!!

Miki
